Q: What are the official flying hours?

A: Friday: 10am to 5pm. Saturday 9am - 5pm with a 1/2 hour noon break for spectator aircraft viewing. Sunday 10:00am to 3pm (+ or -). Click the on the schedule link for more details.

Q: What is the best day to come as a spectator?

A: Saturday is usually best because more pilots can make it and we do a noon airplane line-up so you can get up-close to the planes and pilots. Friday and Sunday may have fewer pilots but crowds are also lighter and there is still a lot of flying going on. Sunday pilots tend to pack up and start heading home around 12pm or so.

Q: Is there a charge for spectators?

A: No. We do not charge for you to come watch, but you may make a donation to the club at the gate.

Q: Are there bleachers or any sort of seating for spectators?

A: No, you'll need to bring your own seating.

Q: I will be there as a spectator and would like a tee shirt, can I buy one?

A: Yes, event tee shirts will be offered for sale by the club on-site.

Q: Are there concessions or vendors at the event?

A: Yes! Saturday and Sunday there will be a food vendor at the event.

Q: As a pilot I can only attend for one day, will my entry fee be pro-rated?

A: No. Entry fees are non-refundable.

Q: In the event of a weather incident, will my entry fee be refunded?

A: We will not cancel the event due to weather, as we've never had a complete shut-out. Entry fees are non-refundable.

Q: Can I arrive early and set up my motorhome/camper prior to Friday's official start date?

A: No. The event is held at the Navy's outlying field and we are not allowed to occupy the facility prior to Friday at around 8am.

Q: Are there hook-ups for my motorhome/camper?

A: Dry camping only, no fires. Use of a generator is permitted. There are Honey Buckets on-site.

Q: I'm bringing a new jet to the event. Can I perform my maiden flight at JOW?

A: Not during sanctioned event hours. We officially stop flying at 5pm on Friday and Saturday. You may fly after official event hours.

Q: I do not have my turbine waivers yet. Can I fly at JOW?

A: Yes, as long as you are on a buddy box with a pilot possessing current AMA and turbine waivers you may fly.

Q: May I fly a turbine helicopter at the event?

A: No. JOW is for fixed wing radio controlled turbine and ducted fan or EDF with a 100mm minimum fan size only.

Q: What is the location and time for the Saturday evening Pilots banquet?

A: The banquet is held at the CPO Club on NAS Whidbey. The banquet starts at 7pm on Saturday and is for registered pilots and their guests only.

Q: As a registered pilot, I want to make a reservation for myself and a guest to the Saturday night banquet, what is the cost and how do I make the reservation?

A: Cost per person is $35.00 and includes your choice of 2 entrees. Beverages are additional. To enquire or make reservations contact Tom Berry. This has become a very popular function and seating is limited, so get on the list early! > email Tom Berry
